A year in the life of two young girls growing up on the Wisconsin frontier, as they help their mother with the daily chores, enjoy their father's stories and singing, and share special occasions when they get together with relatives or neighbors.

Charli's impulsive uncle, Will Crandall, decides to buy the town's abandoned, possibly haunted castle and fix it up as a bed-and-breakfast, but Charli and Sophia, a clairvoyant orphan who has come to stay with the Crandall family, know his plan is somehow dangerous.

A little pioneer girl and her family, living in the Big Woods of Wisconsin, make their first trip into town to visit the general store.

Thirteen-year-old Alex Landry is determined to recruit the new boy at Wisconsin's Kingsford Middle School, Miles Vaughn, to the snowboard team, because his skill is awesome. The trouble is that Miles is taking care of his younger siblings while his mother works two jobs, and finding the time to attend practice is difficult--so Alex sets out to show him being a part of a team means you always have someone to share the load.
